Abstract Background Botanical pesticides may be a possible solution to the post-harvest loss of stored grains faced by farmers and food processors. In this study, seed preservatives properties Secamone afzelii leaves extracts at 50, 100, 150, 200 µl concentrations were investigated against lesser grain borer Rhyzopertha dominica (Fabricus) infestation on wheat weight germination capability arranged in Completely Randomized Design (CRD) replicated thrice under ambient laboratory conditions. Results The outcomes study showed that S. exhibited significant effect ( p < 0.05) suppressing R. adult emergence than untreated. increase led decrease with different extracts. ethyl acetate hexane significantly subdued contact toxicity (6.69% 8.49%) fumigant (8.85 8.87); similar trend was observed both (2.33% 5.13%) (1.50% 1.03%) toxicities µl, respectively. None hinder treated grains, while percentage ranged between 88.69% 93.40%. Conclusion results clearly indicated extracts, general, particular best preservative for wheat. Thus could utilized as protectant substitute conventional synthetic insecticides fumigants control insect conservation quality capability. Further is required identify bioactive chemicals responsible insecticidal activity preservation.
